Lagos couple narrowly escapes death as container crushes their vehicle

A couple narrowly escaped death on Wednesday evening after a container fell on their Lexus Jeep at the Toyota bus stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, noting that the agency received a distress call at approximately 6:35 pm and immediately responded to the scene. Firefighters successfully rescued the couple from the crushed vehicle.
According to Adeseye, the accident occurred when one of the two 20-foot containers being transported by a Mack Trailer with registration number BDG 513 XW fell on the rear side of the Lexus Jeep, registered as EKY 251 HW, while both vehicles were in motion. Sympathizers initially rushed to assist before firefighters arrived to free the victims, a 45-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, who emerged unscathed.
“The victims, along with the trailer driver, were unharmed but underwent trauma therapy to ensure their well-being,” Adeseye stated. She also commended the collaborative efforts of LASEMA, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police from the Ilasamaja Division in clearing the accident scene and managing the ensuing traffic. The remains of the vehicles were promptly removed from the highway to restore normalcy.
